How to Know It's Time to Call for Solar Panel Repair

Updated: Feb 5

These days with more and more people turning to solar power for their homes, it's important to know when to call for solar panel repair. While these panels and solar energy equipment for homes are not prone to problems it's a good idea to know when you should call for help. Just as with everything in your home, routine inspection and maintenance will help you spot issues while they are still small, rather than waiting until they become more serious.

You have power and then you don't

If you notice that your power is doing a disappearing act, and then coming back, this is a sign that something is wrong. As you know, your power should stay consistent. This is a sign that is easy to spot. The problem can be caused by a number of issues.

  • A poor connection due to loose wiring

  • Oxidation

  • Corrosion

Call for repair so that the problem can be fixed. It's also a good idea to have all of your panels checked while the repair person is at the house.

Drops in production are a problem

It's a smart idea to keep track of your power production. You can do this by checking your meter. If you notice that the production of power is dropping, it's time to call for help. Don't ignore this issue; it won't get better on its own, and eventually a drop in power production may impact you in a negative way if it's allowed to continue.

Broken panels are rare but they happen

Solar panels are strong and able to withstand life up on the roof. They aren't affected by the weather. However, a tree limb, or something thrown at them can cause a break or crack. This is something that you want to have repaired as soon as possible. Rain or snow can get inside and cause the panels to operate poorly.

Just by paying a little bit of attention to your solar panels, you can often spot issues as soon as they arise. The sooner that you have them taken care of, the better. You want to make sure that your solar system is always working correctly and as efficiently as possible so that it keeps providing you with the energy that you need to run your household. Fortunately, problems with panels are not a common occurrence, but it's good to be prepared to take action when they do.
